Jasdeep grew up in Singapore and lived abroad for the first time in Reims. According to Jasdeep, there's a lot more to learn from the program than just academics.
"I learned the importance of being responsible for yourself. Living abroad can be harrowing, it can be liberating, but a lot of the time, it is just confusing. Phone bills, visas, paying rent become part of your daily life, as much as taking trips and finishing your homework. 'Adulting' might seem difficult at first, but with your Sciences Po and Berkeley communities, you figure things out and you learn so much along the way."
Jasdeep chose the Dual Degree with UC Berkeley and Sciences Po because he wanted to “immerse [himself] in two different cultural worlds and challenge [himself] to learn to adapt to new environments, whether it be academic systems, social settings, or most importantly, new cuisines!”
At UC Berkeley, Jasdeep became involved in a social impact consulting group called Net Impact. He said this is where he built a tight-knit community of motivated, intelligent, and socially driven individuals.
“In my first semester, my Net Impact team worked on the market expansion for a home wind-turbine renewable energy system in Europe, Japan, and the US. This involved working with a lot of data and making clear and considered propositions to help the client maximize their social impact. Net Impact’s family and desire impact really keeps me engaged and brings a smile whenever we meet for dinner or for project discussions.”
After completing his graduate program at Stanford, Jasdeep plans to pursue a career in diplomacy and public policy. In particular, he is interested in the use of technology in foreign and domestic policy, such as the use of Big Data, considering both the areas of growth and hesitations.
