Ireland, Class of 2020

  • Campus: Le Havre
  • Sciences Po Major: Politics and Government
  • UC Berkeley Major: Media Studies
  • Current Industry: Marketing
  • Location: Chicago, IL

Ireland grew up outside of Chicago and chose the Dual Degree because she wanted a unique college experience that would empower her to live abroad and take on the world in its entirety. She doesn't think there is any other program that allows you to have the traditional American college experience while also becoming a graduate of an elite French university.

In her opinion, the best part is that by the end of the program you will know what it's like to sip café au lait and eat croissants under the Eiffel Tower and what it's like to dress up in only blue and gold for Cal's rivalry football game against Stanford! Ireland also really valued the fact that she could graduate with a BA degree in both Political Science and Media Studies, two overlapping but very different fields of study.

"Living abroad from age 18-20 required a lot of independence and made me grow up in all aspects of my life. Although it was challenging, it has been the greatest adventure of my life thus far and has only set me up for more adventures in my future."

At Sciences Po, Ireland was the proud co-president of the Art Club on campus. When she came to Berkeley, she utilized those leadership skills to become the House President of her student co-op. She also pursued her passion of photography, becoming Deputy Photo Editor of The Daily Californian newspaper and winning the 2019 Matthew M. Lyon Scholarship in Photography.

Since graduating, Ireland is working on video marketing campaigns for L'Oréal Paris.
